Holker Hall

Step back in time and escape from the hustle and bustle of modern day living. Imbibe the atmosphere of the family home of the Cavendish's.

The absence of ropes or barriers and willing guides help this stunning, Lake District home come alive. Admire the outstanding craftsmanship of the sturdy cantilever staircase or the stunning library of 3500 books and discover how each generation has left its mark.

Feel the world famous Holker lime -one of the great trees of Britain. Hear the wind in the trees, in the magical garden. See the stunning views of fells and rolling parkland – the reason why the hall was so beloved a retreat by the Dukes of Devonshire as a counterpoint to Chatsworth’s grandeur.

Taste the local produce from the 17,000 acre estate surrounding Holker Hall – Salt Marsh Lamb, sheep milk cheeses, butter, not to mention a full range of surprising “deli” products to inspire your cooking. Sample the wonderful, wholesome foods in our café.

Families - fly your kite in the park, roam through the gardens, hide and seek in the bushes…look out for our wonderful fancy foul. Swing, slide and climb in our playground.
