A House for an Art Lover: MH Baillie Scott and Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Folios

Blackwell - 13th January 2012 to 29th April 2012

A display of the recently-acquired Baillie Scott folio, published in 1902 by German publisher Alexander Koch, this is the first time it is displayed in its entirety; designs from Mackintosh's entry will also be on display.

In the December 1900 issue of an influential German journal, Journal of Interior Decoration, a competition was announced to encourage new thinking in modern design; competitors were to design a large country house for an art lover. Baillie Scott's entry was awarded the highest prize, praised for the ‘surpassing artistic quality of the interior arrangement'. His designs included many elements which had proved highly successful in his ambitious recent commission, Blackwell.
