Dr Kathy Haslam: The Morris Circle & George Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle (1843-1911) George Howard was an intimate friend of Morris, Philip Webb and Edward Burne-Jones, who worked informally together on several commissions for him, including Naworth Castle and St Martin’s Church in Cumbria, and 1 Palace Green in London. George Howard was the subject of Dr Haslam’s doctoral thesis, and this illustrated talk will draw on her research, bringing these enthralling personalities to life with quotes from letters and diaries.

In total nine markets will take place on Sunday's throughout the year, with producers attending from Cumbria and Lancashire, the markets offer a great opportunity to meet with some of the producers personally and find out more about them and their products. There will also be a chance to sample and buy some of the finest food from the region including, breads, handmade puddings and seasonal produce from the Holker Estate including cheeses from the Holker Farm Dairy, Shorthorn Beef, Saltmarsh Lamb and venison, all of which are sold through the Food Hall at Holker and can be tasted on the Courtyard barbeque during the Producers' Markets.
